Veronica Metz from West Palm Beach, Florida has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic career at NC State beginning in fall 2028.
“I am so incredibly blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at NC STATE!!!🐺♦️ Swimming has changed my life in so many ways. I am so beyond grateful that I do this sport. This sport has given me lifelong friends, best friends, and a family. Swimming makes me, me. Without it, I wouldn’t be who I am. First, I would like to thank my mom and dad. I would not be where I am today without them! Thank you for all of the sacrifices you’ve made for me. Your support and commitment mean the world to me. Thank you so much for all of the guidance throughout my recruiting process. Second, I would like to thank my brother, Dillon. I would not be a swimmer if it wasn’t for you. I am so blessed to have grown up in this sport with you by my side. Thank you so much for being my best friend and supporting me wherever, whenever. Third, I would like to thank my coach, Coach Santy. Coach Santy, you are the biggest blessing I’ve ever had in this sport. You changed my whole outlook on swimming. Metz swims for the Jupiter Dragons Swim Team and Wellington High School and finished her long course season at Summer Juniors. There she was highlighted by a 5th place finish in the 400 free with a 4:18.68. She swam a lifetime best 4:17.65 in prelims. She also was 8th in the 800 free in a lifetime best 8:51.84. She swam best times in all five of her events, also posting a 56.72 100 free (18th), 2:01.98 200 free (9th), and a 17:11.93 1500 free (15th).
Back in March, she swam numerous best times at the SwimStrong Dryland National Championship. There she was highlighted by a win in the 500 free with a 4:48.99 to win by over two seconds. She also won the 400 IM in a 4:21.88.
Metz’s Best SCY Times Are:
- 200 free: 1:47.99
- 500 free: 4:48.99
- 1650 free: 16:48.80
The NC State women finished 5th at the 2026 ACC Championships with 851.5 points and went on to finish 9th at the 2026 NCAA Championships with 196.5 points. Erika Pelaez led the team at NCAAs with 36.5 individual points.
Based on her best times, Metz adds depth to the team’s distance free group. She is not far off of the 4:46.29 it took to score in the 500 free at 2026 ACCs. NC State had two ‘B’ finalists in the event with Katherine Helms 10th (4:42.09) and Emma Hastings 11th (4:42.60). Hastings also led the team with a 16:08.13 for 4th in the 1650 free at ACCs.
Metz will arrive next fall as a member of the class of 2031. She is the first public commitment announced on the girls side.
