Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Columbus, Ohio native Kiera Powers has announced her intention to swim and study at The Ohio State University in the class of 2032. She told SwimSwam:
“I couldn’t be more excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at The Ohio State University! Firstly, a huge thank you to my teammates and friends for their unwavering support! I want to recognize all my coaches, especially Coach John T Sands, for helping guide me in this process and encouraging me to persevere through all challenges. A special thank you to my amazing mom and dad, and my siblings, Liam, Max, Nieve, and Oran. Finally, a huge thank you to Bill and the rest of The OSU coaching staff for giving me this opportunity. Sometimes, you can look all over just to realize the answer has always been home.
GO BUCKS!! ❤️🩶🌰”
A junior at Upper Arlington High School, Powers is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. She swims year-round with Upper Arlington Swim Club and is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 200 free. We named her to the “Best of the Rest” section of our Way Too Early list of top girls’ swimming recruits from the high school class of 2028.
At the Ohio State Division 1 High School State Swimming and Diving Championships last winter, Powers won the 200 IM (1:59.79) and 500 free (4:55.92) and led off the winning 200 free and 400 free relays (23.86/51.34). She earned lifetime bests in the 100 free and 200 IM at the meet.
At 2025 Winter Juniors East, she competed in the 200 free, 500 free, and 200 IM and clocked PBs in the freestyles (1:49.20/4:55.52). Three months later, at the Ohio Swimming Tim Myers Short Course Senior Championships, she lowered her 200 time to 1:47.86 and added new PBs in the 200 breast (2:24.14), 200 fly (2:03.32), 100 IM (56.21), and 400 IM (4:18.59).
This summer, Powers picked up a trio of best times at Columbus Sectionals, going 4:26.94 in the 400 free, 2:20.54 in the 200 IM, and 4:59.62 in the 400 IM. At Summer Junior Nationals, she competed in the 50/200/400 free and 200/400 IM. She finished in 8th place in the 200 IM and finished the meet with PBs of 27.19 in the 50 free, 4:25.45 in the 400 free, and 2:19.12 in the 200 IM.
Best SCY times:
- 200 IM – 1:59.79
- 400 IM – 4:18.59
- 50 free – 23.75
- 100 free – 51.34
- 200 free – 1:47.86
- 500 free – 4:55.52
Powers is the first public swimming commitment to the Buckeyes’ class of 2032; diver Mallory Worobel has also pledged to OSU. Her 200 IM time would have scored in the ‘C’ final at the 2026 Big Ten Championships, while her 400 IM and 200 free times are just a tick off of what it took (4:16.94 / 1:47.41) to get a second swim.
The Buckeyes had a trio of IMers under the 1:59/4:10 barrier last year: Sienna Angove (1:57.72/4:06.51), Paige Delma (1:57.07/4:07.99), and Jessica Eden (1:58.59/4:09.45). Eden has graduated, while Angrove (junior) and Delma (senior) are on the roster this year.
