West Virginia Adds Y Nats Finalist Whitney Kane to 2027 Recruiting Class

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Upper Main Line YMCA’s Whitney Kane has announced her commitment to joining the Mountaineer women of the University of West Virginia as a member of the 2027 recruiting class.

Kane wrote the following regarding her commitment.

I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at West Virginia University!! First, I want to thank God for always having a plan for me. I also want to thank all my coaches especially Coach Jamie, Coach Todd, Coach Owen, and Coach Snook for helping me become the swimmer I am today. I am also incredibly grateful to my family and friends for always supporting me. Lastly, I want to thank Coach Sydney, Coach James, Coach Brent, and the entire West Virginia coaching staff for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to be a Mountaineer! 💙💛

Kane hails from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and recently competed at the YMCA National Long Course Championships, where she reached four individual event finals; her best individual finish came in the 200 freestyle, where she finished 2nd overall in 2:05.58. She added a pair of 5th-place finishes in the 400 free (4:26.16) and 800 free (9:12.25). She also finished 6th overall in the 100 free in 58.70.

As a junior at the PIAA Girls 2A State Championships, Kane, representing Bishop Shanahan School, collected a pair of 3rd-place finishes. She touched in 1:52.80 in the 200 free and 5:00.10 in the 500 free. A season earlier, Kane finished 3rd in the 200 free (1:52.22) and 3rd in the 500 free (5:00.36), though she was slightly quicker in both of those events in the prelims, clocking 1:52.21 and 4:58.89, respectively.

The freestyle specialist notched several of her short course bests at the YMCA National Championships in 2025, including the 200 free (1:51.46), 500 free (4:55.90), 1000 free (10:15.94), and 1650 free (17:35.03).

Best Times SCY:

  • 50 Free – 24.35
  • 100 Free – 53.15
  • 200 Free – 1:51.46
  • 500 Free – 4:55.90
  • 1000 Free – 10:15.95
  • 1650 Free – 17:35.03

The West Virginia women finished 10th at the 2026 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships a season ago.

Based on her best times, Kane would have finished 22nd in the 500 free, 42nd in the 200 free, and 36th in the 1650 free at those championships.

It has been a while since some of those best times were set, but the West Virginia women should be pleased with the ability Kane has shown when she needs to race, earning multiple top-8 finishes at national meets.

Kane joins Mabel Walborn and Brooke Orner in the Mountaineer recruiting class for 2027.
