Georgia State Champion Tessa Steger to Stay In-State at Georgia Tech for 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Georgia native and high school state champion Tessa Steger has verbally committed to Georgia Tech for the recruiting class of 2027.

“I am so honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Georgia Tech! I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches Harv, Adam, Scott, and Jonathan for all the support they’ve given me over the years. I’d also like to thank all of my teammates from ABSC for helping me throughout this journey. A special thank you to coaches Mel, Iago, and Miles for giving me the opportunity to be a part of their program. All glory to God, and GO JACKETS!!! 🐝🐝

Steger competes for the Athens Bulldog Swim Club and North Oconee High School. In January, she competed at the GHSA 4A State Championships, and she earned the state title in the 200 IM, touching in a personal best 2:04.84 to move up three places from her 4th place finish in 2025.

She also finished 4th in the 500 freestyle, touching in 4:59.59, which was also a personal best time.

She raced again in March at the Georgia Southeastern Meet of Champions, and she set six new personal bests in seven events. She dropped in the 100 free (53.08), 500 free (4:58.86), 200 back (2:01.93), 200 breast (2:26.27), 200 fly (2:04.09), and 400 IM (4:21.42).

Personal Best Times (SCY)

  • 500 free — 4:58.86
  • 1650 free — 17:03.50
  • 200 back — 2:01.93
  • 200 fly — 2:04.09
  • 400 IM — 4:21.42

Georgia Tech competes in the ACC where they finished 13th overall with 274 points, 13 ahead of SMU’s 261 in 14th overall.

Steger’s times would have ranked her 5th on the team in the 500 free, 1st in the 1650 free, 5th in the 200 back, 3rd in the 200 fly, and 3rd in the 400 IM.

She will join a large recruiting class at Georgia Tech that includes Aibhlinn King, Kendall Deloach, and Norah Smyth.
