The annual Eastern Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championships featured several future Power 4 college swimmers, as is usually the case.

What was different about this year’s meet, though, was the performance of an eighth grader in the midst of all those college commits.

Madison Suchecki, a 14-year-old from Episcopal Academy, won a pair of events.

Suchecki first won the 200 IM in a personal best time of 2:01.10, which moved her to 9th in the 13-14 girls’ age group this season.

Later, Suchecki won the 100 breast in a time of 1:03.16, which was just one one-hundredths off her personal best time that ranks her 12th this season in the 13-14 age group.

In the team competition, Germantown Academy won the girls’ event by 15.5 points over Mercersburg Academy. The boys’ title was won easily by Mercersburg, which was 134.5 points better than runner-up Phillips Academy.

Girls’ Recap

Suchecki wasn’t the only multiple-event winner. Phillips Exeter senior Mena Boardman and Penn Charter sophomore Eila Spaman also won two events.

Boardman, a Texas commit, won the 100 fly in 51.96 and then captured the 100 back in a personal best 52.42.

Spaman won the 50 free in a personal best 23.27 and also the 100 free in 50.49.

Spaman was also a part of Penn Charter’s winning team in the 400 free relay.

The squad of Cate DeMartinis (52.13), Lili DeMartinis (51.93), Spaman (50.36) and Nola Waldbuesser (49.79) won in a time of 3:24.21.

Exeter’s team of Chloe Meyer-Blohm (25.33), Ellen Jin (28.53), Boardman (22.80) and Jane Lamberton (23.71) captured the 200 medley relay in 1:40.37.

In the 200 free relay, Mercersburg Academy’s squad of Sophie Koroma (23.57), Xiomara Del Rosario (23.59), Tuana Ozdemir (23.34) and Zoe Williamson (23.15) won in 1:33.65.

  • Germantown Academy sophomore Ana Navajo won the diving event with 475.50 points.
  • Amelia Gipson, a junior from Germantown Academy and a Harvard commit, won the 500 free in 4:50.78.
