Women’s Meet Recap

The women’s meet opened with the 400 medley relay, which went to the Wisconsin team of Maggie Wanezek (51.18), Brooke Corrigan (1:00.17), Hailey Tierney (53.76), and Abby Wanezek (48.35). They touched in 3:33.46 to come in nearly two seconds ahead of UCLA who had one faster split. Jada Duncan was 51.90 on the Bruins’ fly leg to set the fastest time in the field. Wisconsin’s Lucie Delmas had the fastest breaststroke split at 1:00.15 on their 4th place ‘B’ relay.

The Badgers went on to also win the next event, the women’s 1000 freestyle with Blair Stoneburg setting a new season best 9:41.96 en route to the win. Stoneburg also won the 500 freestyle in 4:44.04.

Wisconsin went on to win four more individual events over the course of the meet. Maggie Wanezek took two wins with the top time in the 100 back of 51.22 and the top time in the 200 IM at 1:56.74, which exactly ties her personal best time in the event.

Hazal Ozkan swam the top time in the 200 breast at 2:11.09, about two seconds off her personal and season best, and Lucie Delmas won the 200 fly in 1:59.18 to be the only swimmer under 2:00.

The 200 free relay also went to Wisconsin with their team of Abby Wanezek (23.07), Maggie Wanezek (21.89), Hailey Tierney (22.26), and Blair Stoneburg (22.55) swimming 1:29.77.

UCLA had the 2nd most individual event wins, due in large part to the contributions of freshman Jada Duncan.

Duncan won three individual events, more than anyone else in the meet, scoring crucial points for the UCLA team.

She started with the top time in the 200 freestyle at 1:46.28, which was a new personal best, dropping from the 1:47.77 she swam last February.

She followed that up with the top time in the 100 free, touching in 48.81 to come in nearly a second ahead of Wisconsin’s Abby Wanezek, who swam 49.57. Finally, she won the 100 fly in 52.27, more than a second ahead of Wisconsin’s Tierney, who swam 53.70.

The Bruins also won the 50 free with Claudia Yovanovichs 22.79 coming in as the only swimmer under 23 seconds. The 2nd and 3rd place finishers were also from UCLA with Anna Wetteland taking 2nd in 23.12 and Alexis Schaffer swimming 23.27 for 3rd.

Their final event win came in the 200 back where Rosie Murphy swam 1:54.01 to destroy the rest of the field, touching more than six seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher Erica Jaffe, also from UCLA, who swam 2:00.49.

UCSD’s Chloe Braun, won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.63 to come in just five hundredths ahead of Wisconsin’s Hazal Ozkans 1:00.68 for 2nd.

Men’s Meet Recap
